Mission

Our mission is to redefine the future of golf course management through environmental stewardship, innovation and excellence — harmonizing the beauty of the game with sustainable practice and responsible agronomy.

We provide solutions that prioritize ecological balance, water conservation and biodiversity, so that each golf course not only thrives but becomes a model for sustainability. Through research, education and collaboration, we work to empower course owners, managers and players to enjoy the sport in harmony with nature — leaving a legacy of green excellence for the generations to come.

Vision

Our vision is to lead the transformation of golf course management into a global model of sustainability: a future where golf courses integrate seamlessly with the natural environment, serving as showcases of ecological balance and responsible land stewardship.

We aim to pioneer new standards in sustainable agronomy and to be recognized as the go-to authority for environmentally conscious golf course solutions — inspiring a collective shift towards responsible land use, water conservation and biodiversity enhancement, far beyond the boundaries of the golf course.

Bio — Janne Lehto MG, CGCS

I am Janne Lehto MG — golf course agronomist, superintendent, and environment consultant based in Helsinki, Finland, with a strong passion for sustainability, innovation, golf and turfgrass management.

As a Master Greenkeeper, Certified Golf Course Superintendent and Sustainability Champion, I am dedicated to leading the transformation of golf course management into a global model of sustainability, and committed to the continuous improvement of golf clubs and turfgrass excellence.

I have worked on golf courses around the globe — from Finland to Scotland to Australia — with extensive experience in professional tournament set-up at the highest level: the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup and The Open among them. I have also had the opportunity to work at some of the most prestigious clubs in the business, such as Loch Lomond Golf Club.

As golf course superintendent at Hirsala Golf since 2016, I have implemented this sustainable management approach in practice — making Hirsala the Living Lab of Turfgrass Mastery. The course was an early adopter of robotics: 100% of fairways, aprons, tees and rough are maintained by an automatic mower fleet. Hirsala has been nominated among the top 100 most sustainable golf courses in the world and has won the Finnish Golf Union’s Environment Award four times (2010, 2018, 2021 and 2024).

My agronomy and consultancy work has included the greens grass species change at Kytäjä Golf, long-term development and grow-in at KeriGolf with Ilonen Design, remodelling planning for Sarfvik Golf’s Old Course, Master Planning at Hirsala Golf, project management of the Golf Course Management book for the Finnish golf industry, and a long-standing partnership with the Finnish Golf Union.

Alongside golf, I enjoy football — central to my youth — as well as other sports, fishing, the gym and travelling. This career has given me the chance to see the world and learn from different cultures.

I am a firm believer in sustainability, dedicated to enhancing golf experiences through biodiversity and connecting nature into golf. My goal is to inspire as many people as possible onto the sustainable golf course management journey.

I’m always open to connecting with like-minded people about turfgrass management, sustainability or the golf industry. Feel free to reach out — let’s explore the possibilities together.
