Kytäjä Golf
Greens transformation — consistency, drainage, winter tolerance
The situation
Kytäjä Golf, one of Finland’s premier facilities, faced inconsistent turf quality on its greens: grass species poorly suited to long-term sustainability, drainage limitations, and variable playing conditions.
The approach
A detailed analysis of soil composition, grass species and prevailing weather conditions formed the basis of the strategy. The greens were re-turfed with improved turfgrass varieties resilient to the local climate, using sod grown in the highlands of Madrid (Novogreen).
The result
More consistent greens, mitigated drainage issues and markedly improved winter stress tolerance — with reduced need for nutrition, water and mechanical maintenance.
Turfgrass Mastery didn’t just meet our expectations; they exceeded them. Their 360 approach and commitment to sustainable agronomy and innovation have helped elevate our golf course to new heights. It is crucial to include professionals outside our own organization for efficient decision making. The results speak for themselves – consistent, more resilient greens that our members and players truly appreciate.

KeriGolf
Long-term development and grow-in — Eastern Finland
The situation
KeriGolf, a scenic course in Eastern Finland, needed both infrastructure upgrades and a long-term agronomic strategy to meet modern standards sustainably.
The approach
An in-depth assessment of soil health, site conditions and existing practices — followed by a tailored plan created in collaboration with the club and golf course architects Ilonen Design: layout enhancements, strategic tree removals, irrigation upgrades and turfgrass varieties suited to the local climate.
The result
The transformation began with the practice facilities and the first holes of the course. Healthier turf, reduced resource consumption and improved playing conditions — with a continuing partnership for maintenance, agronomy and future phases.
Turfgrass Mastery helped us not only to start revitalizing our course but also guided us towards a more sustainable future. The course upgrades are a testament to their commitment to excellence. Our players can now enjoy not only a challenging round of golf but also the beauty of a well-maintained, eco-friendly environment.

Golf Talma
Strategic agronomy & robotics implementation
The situation
Golf Talma initiated a long-term development programme to support the club’s strategic roadmap through improved agronomy, operational efficiency and sustainable maintenance. The objective was to identify opportunities to enhance playing quality, optimise maintenance practices and evaluate the role of autonomous technologies in future course operations.
The approach
A comprehensive agronomic assessment was carried out across both courses, evaluating turf performance, grass species, shade, traffic patterns and overall playing surfaces. In parallel, a robotics implementation study analysed maintenance operations, mowing areas and machine capacities to develop a phased strategy for autonomous maintenance aligned with the club’s long-term goals.
The result
The project delivered a clear long-term agronomic and operational roadmap, providing prioritised recommendations for course improvements, infrastructure development and robotics implementation. The strategy supports more consistent playing conditions, improved resource efficiency and sustainable maintenance while aligning future investments with the club’s strategic vision.

Finnish Golf Union
Nationwide sustainability — Golf Course Environment & Agronomy consultant since 2018
The situation
Golf clubs across Finland’s diverse landscapes and climates face distinct challenges in maintaining courses sustainably. The Union’s goal: harmonize best practices so that as many clubs as possible thrive while contributing to environmental stewardship.
The approach
Extensive dialogue with club managers, greenkeepers and environmental stewards, resulting in the Golf Course 2030 document and a series of Sustainable Golf Course Management best-practice guides. Customized club-level plans covered water management, turf care and resource conservation, supported by workshops and training.
The result
Reduced water consumption, improved biodiversity, better data collection and measurable environmental impact across member clubs — a ripple effect that continues to spread.
Turfgrass Mastery has been instrumental in transforming our vision of sustainable golf course management into a reality. Their expertise and collaborative spirit have empowered our member clubs to not only meet but exceed environmental standards. Together, we’re shaping a future where Finnish golf courses are not just playing fields but thriving ecosystems.
